action

China in the 1930s. The archaeologist “Dr. Wai ”, also known as the“ Action King ”, is a famous scientist and warrior in China. His reputation penetrates into the highest levels of government. Some senior military officials commission Wai to find the script without words . Scripture is an ancient artifact that gives you omnipotence. The military believes that writing is a weapon against the Japanese, who are increasingly gaining power . So Wai goes on a search with his shrewd but loudmouthed assistant Pau.

To get to the scroll, however, Wai needs a mysterious box full of uncontrollable energies, which on the one hand shows the way and on the other hand represents the key to the entrance to the palace of the scroll. A document referring to the location of the box is in the Japanese embassy in Shanghai . Wai and Pau sneak in and, after the Japanese General Shing is distracted, they take control of the document. Wai meets the embassy employee "Yu Fung" with whom he immediately falls in love. But what Wai does not know: Yu Fung himself is the general of the Japanese and also wants to own the writing of death.

The document leads the soldiers of fortune to a newspaper critical of the system. While Pau is flirting with the tough typesetter Penn Si, Wai discovers that the editor-in-chief is in possession of the box. When Yu Fung also learns about it, she sets the bandit "N'Gai" and his gang to get the box into their possession. But Wai and the newspaper people can outsmart the gangsters and bring the box to safety.

Yu Fung then tries to arrest Wai's employer, a high-ranking Chinese general, at the train station. But here, too, Wai is on the spot and in general scuffle can bring the injured Yu Fung (whose true identity he still does not know) to safety, while Pau falls into the hands of the Japanese.

Wai frees Pau from their secret laboratory, but finds out that Yu Fung has betrayed him and, with Wai's knowledge, has stolen the box. During the action, however, this was opened, whereby the N'Gai, who was also present, was transformed into a superhuman creature.

Yu Fung can now determine the location of the Temple of the Scroll: it is at the "Gate of Gaiu", a passage in the Great Wall of China . On the way there, however, their people mutinied against them, led by Shing. But once again Wai, Pau and Penn Si are on board to help her. Unfortunately, the superhuman N'Gai also followed them.

With the help of the box the four get into the temple of the scroll. But when they want to get to them, N'Gai faces them. Wai is inferior to him in battle until Yu Fung sacrifices himself and holds him tight. Wai opens the box and both N'Gai and Yu Fung are destroyed. Wai decides to leave the scroll in place, otherwise it will only wreak havoc. The reincarnation of a monk appears and shows him that this is the right way to go. The message is: love will heal everything - for example that of Pau and Penn Si, who got married in a vision ...

useful information

  • There is a directors cut of Die Schrift des Todes with an additional 15 minutes of film supposedly.
  • The alleged Directors Cut is the original version from Asia. The writing of death was relieved for Germany by the original framework story. Actually, the story of Dr. Wai just written by an author (also Jet Li) and commented on by his friends (who are the other characters in the Dr. Wai story). This changes the course of the story because he (Jet Li) rewrites things spontaneously and thus changes the story of the story. The DVD of the Hong Kong version serves as a source and comparison.
  • The film also had the working titles Adventure King, Dr. Wai and the Scripture Without Words, Dr. Wei in the Scripture with No Words, Mao xian wang and The Scripture with No Words .
  • The film, which is already amusing in itself, got a rather shoddy dubbing in the German version. Other names were also used. So the characters are actually called:
    • Jet Li - Chow Si kit
    • Collin Chou - Hung Sing
    • Charlie Yeung - Yvonne
    • Rosamund Kwan - Monica Kwan / Cammy
