Downtown Torpedos ( Chinese  神偷 諜 影 , Pinyin Shén Tōu Dié Yǐng ) is an agent thriller produced in Hong Kong in 1997 by the director Teddy Chan .

action

Hong Kong in March 1997. The friends Jackal and Cash, as well as the unknown Titan and the attractive Sam, all well-trained and successful industrial spies , are urged by the security chief of the local secret service, Stanley Wong, to cooperate with the British Crown Colony. The three men and the young woman are said to steal two printing plates for the production of British banknotes , which are located in a well-protected building complex of MI5 . For reasons unspecified, Wong fears for the safety of the records, which, if lost, could destabilize the world economy with unforeseen consequences.

With the support of the deaf and dumb hacker Phoenix, the quartet succeeds in the carefully planned coup, but the valuable booty is snatched away from them by an intrigue of Stanley, who pursues his own interests. Phoenix is fatally injured in this operation. The remaining specialists want to avenge the death of their comrade, as well as hold their dodgy client accountable, who misused them as a means to an end. In a race against time, the four fight their way through an inscrutable web of criminal machinations, false identities and ubiquitous betrayal. In the course of their investigation, the alcoholic Titan is wounded; a little later he also dies. In the midst of this chaotic situation, Sam reveals herself as a smuggled agent of the British Crown Colony who was tasked with infiltrating the community of industrial spies.

Although Cash and Jackal are visibly disappointed, they decide to accomplish their mission together. In the Hungarian capital, the three finally make up the fugitive Wong. There they eliminate the wanted person after a wild shootout and thus ultimately get the valuable printing plates back into possession. At the end of the film, they hand them over to the British Security Service, which gives them a new identity as a thank you; the secret service refrains from further prosecution measures.
