The Jelení hora (German Hassberg , not to be confused with Jelenia Góra , formerly Hirschberg , in Lower Silesia) is a 994 m high mountain in the Ore Mountains in the Aussiger region on the territory of the Czech Republic .

location

The mountain is located in the Okres Chomutov between Annaberg-Buchholz and Chomutov southeast of the municipality of Kryštofovy Hamry (Christophhammer). It rises above the wide valley of the Preßnitz with the Preßnitz dam , which is now located on the site of the former mining town of Přísečnice (Preßnitz) southwest of the mountain. The steep, narrow and only partially wooded summit of the mountain is striking, which rises above the wide plateaus of the Erzgebirge ridge and thus enables a good view of the Upper Ore Mountains and, to a limited extent , of the Egertal .

geology

The mountain is made up of nephelinite and andesite , a volcanic rock that forms irregular hexagonal columns here and was probably formed in the Tertiary in the course of effusive volcanic activity . Another corridor of the same rock is found 300 meters to the northwest . Extensive debris has been distributed on the slopes of the hill by floor tiles .

history

Countess Gabriela Buquoy had a wooden lookout house built on the summit in the 1830s, in which a staircase led to a platform on the roof. There was an alarm bar next to this building . The pole and the house, which had been renewed in 1852, were demolished in the late 1880s. According to a report from 1924, a wooden scaffolding pyramid stood at the highest point. According to a description by the same author from 1930, an 18-meter-high observation pyramid was erected on the summit in 1928, which he mentioned repeatedly in 1933. However, details are not known.

ways

Jelení hora can be easily reached via a footpath that leads to the summit from the south. The dam of the Preßnitz Dam is a good starting point, but access is also possible from Výsluní in the southeast in the area, which is accessible by a dense network of forest roads .

In addition, the statutes , which are close on the German side, are a good starting point.
