The Preßnitz Dam ( Czech Vodní nádrž Přísečnice ) is a reservoir in the Ústecký kraj (Aussig region) in the Czech Republic , on the Bohemian side of the central Ore Mountains and near Jöhstadt .

The reservoir is around 50 m deep and serves as a drinking water reservoir for the people in the Egertal and northern Bohemia . The Preßnitz (and its tributaries in the Preßnitz valley basin) is dammed, which then flows into German territory and flows into the Zschopau .

To improve the water balance, water from the Jöhstädter Schwarzwasser (Černá Voda) was also led into the dam through a transfer . For this purpose, a weir was built in the Schwarzwassertal between Kovarska (Schmiedeberg) and Černý Potok (Pleil) and a 2,907 m long circular drainage tunnel with a diameter of 2.8 m was created to the dam.

On the Preßnitz was the old mining town of Preßnitz (Přísečnice), which 1973–1974 including the neighboring towns of Reischdorf ( Rusová ) and Dörnsdorf ( Dolina ) was given up in order to build a drinking water reservoir in its place by damming the Preßnitz. The village of Köstelwald ( Kotlina ) was also partially relocated and demolished , as it was also located in the catchment area of the dam.

The 50 m high dam was built as early as 1970–1971, and construction was completed in 1976. The dam designer was Hydroprojekt Praha; The operator is Povodí Ohře in Chomutov .

The dam is a rubble dam with a central, internal clay seal. An inspection corridor runs under the dam . The water is taken through two extraction towers in the storage space , one of which also serves as a flood relief .

Water catchment area

Several tributaries of the Preßnitz flowed into the Preßnitz basin before the construction of the dam into the Preßnitz. Several of these streams still exist after the dam was built, and their water now flows into the dam. see: Přísečnice # Former brooks in the Preßnitz valley basin

The former Preßnitz waterworks (elevated reservoir from 1905) on the Heegberg to the west of the dam, which has been preserved in ruins today, now also channels its water into the dam.

Since the "House of Austria Tiefer Erbstollen " (more than 10 km long) led from the former city center of Preßnitz via Orpus to almost Kupferberg , measures had to be taken after the construction of the dam to drain the Kupferberg mines (heavy metal pollution! ) into the Preßnitz drinking water reservoir.

More information about the dam and dam

The dam is about 1 km above Kryštofovy Hamry (Christofhammer). It has a total volume of 1,167,400 cubic meters. Its height is given as 50.3 m, its crown length with 469.7 m, the crown width in this source with 10 m (!), The maximum core width of the sealing (clay core) with 18 m. The dam is to hold around 55 million cubic meters and then have a water surface of 339 hectares. At the lowest water level there should be around 48 ha of water. In one of the two water towers, an elevator with a cross-section of 1.5 m × 1.5 m and a spiral staircase with a 2 m diameter are installed.

Water treatment plant in Hradiště and supply area of the dam

Between 1971 and 1976 , the water treatment plant of the Přísečnice reservoir was built in Hradiště (Radis), today a district of Klášterec nad Ohří , and put into operation in 1976. A 6.3 km long pressure tunnel and a water pipe lead the water from the dam to Hradiště. Suspended matter is separated in the treatment plant, the water is enriched with ozone for disinfection and stored in a storage basin in Hradiště. A water laboratory makes water analyzes here. The water from the pressure tunnel / pressure pipe also drives the turbines of a power plant, whereby the water pressure in the pipe is lowered at the same time as electricity is generated.

The water is drawn from the Přísečnice dam in a water tower, which is located about 215 m in front of the embankment. Here the water can be drawn off at four different depths and discharged into the pressure tunnel to Hradiště.

From the Hradiště reservoir, pipelines and several connected water towers supply the towns of Klášterec nad Ohří (Klösterle an der Eger), Kadaň (Kaaden), Chomutov (Komotau) and Most (Brüx). Louny (Laun), Teplice (Teplitz) and Ústí nad Labem (Aussig) are also partially supplied.
