The Kurimany Viaduct is a 193.5 meter long bridge on the Janovce - Jablonov section of the Slovak Diaľnica D1 motorway , at 346.5 km.

The bridge in question is referred to as 206-00 in building permit documents and crosses an unnamed stream north of Iliašovce ( Okres Spišská Nová Ves ) and northwest of Kurimany ( Okres Levoča ).

Bridge building

A total of 10 bridges were planned on the 9 km long subsection between Jánovce and Levoča , seven of them on the motorway route. Most of them were built as prestressed concrete bridges . The bridges were to be built in cooperation between the two companies Váhostav-SK and the Czech Boegl a Krýsl (subsidiary of the German construction group Max Bögl ). To this end, a cooperation with the subcontractor , the Slovak company Semos , was entered into.

The bridge was opened to traffic on October 20, 2015 together with the Jánovce – Levoča subsection.

accident

During concreting work on November 2, 2012, a bridge span that was built by the Semos company collapsed . Four workers died, three were seriously injured and eleven were slightly injured. The investigation into the cause continues to this day (as of 2016).

The German engineer Sabina H., who was responsible for the statics of the structures on the Jánovce-Jablonov section of the D1, was shown to be jointly responsible. You have incorrectly calculated the stiffening of the bridge structure due to incorrect load protection.

The Slovak public discussed why the Slovak-Czech-Polish subsidiary was commissioned by Max Bögl for public buildings , even though one of the company's bridges collapsed in 2008 and led to the Studénka railway accident . The focus of the political discussion was the financing of new motorway construction and the associated alleged savings as a possible reason for the faulty scaffolding construction.
