The viaduct Langer field (rare Langerfelder Viaduct ) is a 330 m long and 44 m (2 x 18.5 m) wide highway bridge the Federal Highway 1 (A 1) between the connection points Wuppertal-long field and Wuppertal-Ronsdorf. It is located in the Langerfeld district of Wuppertal in the Langerfeld-Beyenburg district . The streets In Fleute and Schwelmer Straße are bridged at the end . The approximately 300 m long area between these streets under the bridge is cordoned off by a wire fence and unused.
In 2000, the state road construction company in North Rhine-Westphalia tendered an order for the renewal of the girder bridge from the 1960s . The first planning began in 1996. The planning provided for two similar constructions, each of which was to accommodate three lanes and one hard shoulder. The new eight-span bridge in the steel composite is part of the six-lane expansion of the A 1 until December 2008 and replaces the old reinforced concrete structure ( prestressed concrete ). Part of the structure are two to six meter high retaining walls .
During the construction, which lasted from 2001 to 2004, the old eastern bridge was first relieved by means of a temporary bridge, so that it could then be demolished and rebuilt. After the traffic had been directed to the new eastern bridge after completion, the western bridge could be demolished. This was then also rebuilt. Most of the construction, which was based on an investment of 25 million euros, was built by the Echterhoff company.
The bridge substructures are built on piles with a diameter of 1.8 meters. The original plan was to drive them only twelve meters into the earth. Due to the geological conditions and the insufficient load-bearing capacity of the subsoil, pier lengths of up to 35 meters were actually necessary. Around 2400 t of steel and 17,000 m³ of concrete were used.
