Talcott Mountain State Park is a state park in the area of Simsbury , Avon, and Bloomfield in the US state of Connecticut . The park extends on the Metacomet Ridge . The largest, northern part with some limestone formations is in the Simsbury area, while the southern part becomes narrower and runs partly on the border of Avon and Bloomfield. The highest peaks are King Philipp Mountain and Talcott Mountain (279 m). The King Philipp brook also rises from the former . The elevation and the brook are named after the Indian chief Metacomet , who took the European name Philipp . Talcott Mountain was probably named after Joseph Talcott . In the north, the Penwood State Park joins, the nearest river is the Farmington River , which flows about a kilometer to the west at the foot of the Metacomet Ridge.
The park is ideal for hiking and has viewpoints ready, including the Heublein Tower , a 50 m high observation tower on the summit of Talcott Mountain . The hiking trails are part of the Metacomet Trail system and there are picnic opportunities. The hiking trail to the observation tower is about 2 km long.
South of the park is the Talcott Mountain Science Center .
