The Corgas dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Corgas ) is located in the Central Portugal region in the Castelo Branco district . It dams the Isna River , a left (eastern) tributary of the Zêzere, to a reservoir. The small town of Proença-a-Nova is about six kilometers southwest of the dam.
The dam was completed in 1991. It is used to supply drinking water. The dam is owned by CM Proença-a-Nova .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 30 m above the foundation level (25.5 m above the river bed). The top of the wall is at a height of 545.5 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 92 m. The volume of the structure is 13,039 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 11.9 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 140 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 140 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 543 m (max. 543 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.11 km² and holds 0.66 million m³ of water - of which 0.534 million m³ can be used.
Others
Connected to the dam is a system that supplies the district of Proença-a-Nova with drinking water. It delivers 4,320 m³ of drinking water every day.
