The Cruz del Eje dam or Arturo Illia dam ( Spanish: Represa Cruz del Eje or Dique Cruz del Eje or Dique Arturo Illia ) is a dam with a hydropower plant in the province of Córdoba , Argentina . It dams the Río Cruz del Eje to a reservoir. The town of Cruz del Eje is about 7 km northwest of the dam.

The dam is used for irrigation, drinking water supply and electricity generation. Construction of the dam began in March 1940. It was completed in December 1943. On July 3, 1944, it was inaugurated by the then President of Argentina, Edelmiro Julián Farrell . The dam was named after a former lieutenant governor of the province of Cordoba, Arturo Umberto Illia .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of a concrete pier dam with a length of 860 m and a bulk dam with a length of 2050 m. The top of the wall is at a height of 530 m above sea level . The height of the structure is 40 m, the total length is 3080 m. From 1977 to 1980, the building was renovated.

Reservoir

When the reservoir is full, it extends over an area of around 12 km² and holds 135 million m³ of water.

power plant

The power plant's machine house is located at the foot of the dam. The installed capacity is 1.2 MW . The generators of the two Francis turbines with horizontal shaft each have a maximum output of 0.6 MVA . The maximum flow rate is 1.5 m³ / s per turbine. The power plant was built from 1956 to 1958.
