The dam El Tunal or Dam General Martín Miguel de Güemes ( Spanish Represa El Tunal , Dique El Tunal or Represa General Martín Miguel de Güemes ) is a dam with a hydroelectric power station in the province of Salta , Argentina . It dams the Río Salado to a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity. It was completed in 1985. The dam was named after General Martín Miguel de Güemes .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure consists of a concrete gravity dam and embankments on both sides. The crest of the dam is at a height of 480 m above sea level . The height of the structure is 37.5 (or 41) m, the total length is 3202 m. 121,000 m³ of concrete and 4.141 million m³ of bulk material were used for the barrier structure. The dam has a flood relief system that can discharge a maximum of 2000 m³ / s.
Reservoir
With a reservoir target of 476 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 34.74 (or 38) km² and holds 237.4 (or 310) million m³ of water.
power plant
The power plant's machine house is on the left side of the flood relief. The installed capacity is 10.8 (or 12) MW . The average annual production is given as 50 million kWh . Annual production fluctuates: in 2005 it was 38.5 million kWh and in 2001 it was 77.2 million kWh. The power plant was acquired by AES Argentina in November 1995.
