The Imboulou dam ( French Barrage (hydroélectrique) d'Imboulou ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the department of Pool , Republic of the Congo . It dams the Léfini , a right tributary of the Congo , to a reservoir.

Construction of the dam and the associated power plant began in 2003. The power plant went into operation with the first machine in June 2010. The official opening took place on May 7, 2011 by President Denis Sassou-Nguesso . The dam is owned by the Société nationale d'électricité (SNE) and is also operated by SNE.

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of an earth embankment dam with a height of 30.5 (or 33) m. The length of the dam crest is 581 m. The dam has a flood discharge that can discharge a maximum of 1200 m³ / s.

power plant

The power plant ( French: Centrale hydroélectrique d'Imboulou ) has an installed capacity of 120 MW . The average annual production is given as 680 million  kWh . The 4 Kaplan turbines in the power plant have a maximum output of 30 MW each. The height of fall is given as 15.4 (or 18) m.

The total cost of the project was initially estimated at $ 280 million . Once the work they are 340 million USD given.
