The dam Kaeng Krachan is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the district of Kaeng Krachan , Province Phetchaburi , Thailand . It dams the Phetchaburi to a reservoir.
The dam is used for power generation, irrigation, drinking water supply and tourism. Construction began in 1961; it was completed in 1966. The associated power plant was built from November 1971 to August 1974. The dam is owned by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and is also operated by EGAT.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is an earth embankment dam with a height of 58 m. The length of the dam crest is 760 m; their width is 8 m. The crest of the dam is at a height of 106 m above sea level . To the right of the main dam there are two secondary dams.
Reservoir
At the maximum storage target , the reservoir extends over an area of around 46.5 km² and holds 710 million m³ of water. The reservoir is located in the Kaeng Krachan National Park .
power plant
The installed power of the power plant with one turbine is 19 MW . The annual production is 70 million kWh . The power plant was renovated from November 2008 to May 2010. The machine house is located at the foot of the dam in the middle of the main dam.
