The dam Kardzhali is a dam with hydroelectric plant in Kardzhali Province , Bulgaria . It dams the Arda into a reservoir. The associated power plant has an installed capacity of 106 MW . The town of Kardzhali is about a kilometer downstream .
Barrier structure
The shut-off is a gravity dam of concrete m with a height of 103.5 (or 109). The length of the top of the wall is 403 m. The dam was built from 1957 to 1963.
Reservoir
When the reservoir is full, it extends over an area of around 16 km² and holds 540 million m³ of water. The reservoir extends over a length of 22 km; its average depth is 60 m.
power plant
The power plant has an installed capacity of 106 MW ; it went into operation in 1963. The 4 machines of the power plant each produce a maximum of 26.5 MW.
