The dam Krichim is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in Plovdiv Province , Bulgaria . It dams the Watscha to a reservoir. The associated power plant has an installed capacity of 80 MW . The city of Krichim is about 10 km downstream.

The dam is owned by Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania EAD (NEK EAD) and is also operated by NEK EAD.

Barrier structure

The shut-off is a gravity dam of concrete with a height of 104.5 m above the foundation bed . The length of the top of the wall is 270 m. The top of the wall is at a height of 418 m above sea level .

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief with three gates. A maximum of 68 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 2060 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 2774 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once every 1,000 years.

Reservoir

With a normal storage target of 412 m (max. 418 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.8 km² and holds 20.26 million m³ of water. The minimum congestion target up to which electricity generation is still possible is 392 m.

power plant

The power plant is located about 500 m downstream of the dam on the left bank of the Watscha. It went into operation in 1972 and is used to cover peak loads . The power plant has an installed capacity of 80 MW . The average annual production is 256 million kWh . The power plant's two Francis turbines have a maximum output of 40 MW each. The height of fall is 172 m.
