The Lagoacho dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Lagoacho ) is located in the Central Portugal region in the Guarda district . It dams the Covão do Urso to a reservoir. The dam is located in the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela nature reserve . The small town of Seia is about eight kilometers northwest of the dam. The Lagoa Comprida dam is about three kilometers southwest of it, the Vale do Rossim dam about three kilometers northeast.

The dam was completed in 1993. It is owned by HIDROCENEL, Energia do Centro, SA .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of a CFR dam with a height of 38 m above the foundation level (36 m above the river bed). The top of the wall is at an altitude of 1,439 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 360 m and its width 6 m. The volume of the dam is 251,000 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 9 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 105 m³ / s via the flood discharge.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 1,436 m (maximum 1,437.8 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of ​​around 0.237 km² and holds 1.525 million m³ of water, which can be fully used. The minimum storage target is 1,425 m.

The water from the reservoir is led through a tunnel with a length of 3,270 m to the reservoir of the Vale do Rossim dam .
