The Marateca dam ( Portuguese Barragem da Marateca or Barragem da Santa Águeda ) is located in the region of central Portugal in the Castelo Branco district . It dams the Ocreza , a right (northern) tributary of the Tejo to a reservoir (port. Albufeira da Barragem da Santa Águeda ). The municipality of Lardosa is located approximately two kilometers northeast of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1982. The construction was completed in 1991. In addition to the drinking water supply, the dam is also used for irrigation. It is owned by INAG and the municipality of Castelo Branco , the " Câmara Municipal de Castelo Branco" .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 25 m above the foundation level (24 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 387.9 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 1,054 m and its width is 7.6 m. The volume of the dam is 435,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 15.25 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 60 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 422 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 385 m (maximum 385.5 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 6.34 km² and holds 37.2 million m³ of water - 32.7 million m³ of this can be used. The minimum storage target is 375.5 m.
