The Naděje Dam , formerly the Hope Dam or Hammertalsperre ( Vodní nádrž Naděje in Czech ) is a water reservoir in the Czech Republic .
geography
The dam is 455 m above sea level. M. less than one and a half kilometers north of the village Naděje in the municipality of Cvikov in the Lusatian Mountains . The dam is located in the forest above the hamlet of Hamr ( Hammer ) between the Suchý vrch ( Dürrberg ) and the Kamenný vrch ( Steinberg )). The dammed water is fed by the Hamerský potok ( Hammerbach or trap water ) flowing down from the valley between Lausche and Pěnkavčí vrch ( Finkenkoppe ) .
A chain of bunkers of the Czechoslovak Wall has been running south of the dam since 1936 , above which is the Ledová jeskyně Naděje ( Ice Cave ) on Suchý vrch .
history
The construction of a dam on the Försterwiese as impact water reservoir for the hammer mill and the boards saw in Hammer was commissioned by the Netherlands Water Association. The project, realized between 1937 and 1938, came from the Teplitz master builder A. Niklas.
The 91.57 m long and 9.5 m high dam is made of phonolite from Suchý vrch. The crest of the dam is 1.7 m wide and 33 m long with an overflow.
After the mill and saw in Hamr were shut down in the second half of the 20th century, the system lost its importance for water management. Your drain has been closed and the water floods over the overflow. The reservoir has a water surface of 1.16 ha and holds 33,000 m³ of water. Bathing is possible in the lake, but due to its location in the mountain valley and the inflow, the water only heats up slightly in summer.
The remains of medieval glassworks have been found in the vicinity of the dam. It is believed that there was another dam at the site of the dam.
