The Toulica dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Toulica ) is located in the region of central Portugal in the Castelo Branco district . It dams the Ribeira da Toulica to a reservoir. The municipality of Zebreira is about three kilometers south of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1975. The construction was completed in 1979. In addition to the drinking water supply, the dam is also used for irrigation. It is owned by the Idanha-a-Nova County Council , CM Idanha-a-Nova .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure consists of a dam with a height of 16 m above the foundation level (14 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 289.5 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 319 m and its width 8 m. The volume of the dam is 122,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 17.6 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood relief. The design flood is 80 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring was determined to be once every 100 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 287.5 m (maximum 288.5 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.464 km² and holds 2.02 million m³ of water - of which 1.59 million m³ can be used.
