Tamás Fabiny (born February 5, 1959 in Budapest , Hungary ) is a Hungarian Lutheran theologian and bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary and from 2018 the leading bishop of the church.

Life

His father, Tibor Fabiny, was a Lutheran clergyman, church historian and university professor. After finishing school, Fabiny studied Protestant theology . He finished his studies in 1982 and then worked for four years as a clergyman in the area around Balaton . He then worked for 13 years in the Kőbánya district of Budapest and has been teaching at the Evangélikus Hittudományi Egyetem (Evangelical Lutheran Theological University in Budapest). He was in Erlangen in 1984/85, later in 1993/94 and 1997/98, and in Chicago in 1985/86 on theological study trips. Fabiny was elected Bishop of the Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary in 2005 . At the end of July 2010, Fabiny was elected as one of seven clergymen as deputy in the Lutheran World Federation . Fabiny is the executive director of the Christian-Jewish Society in Hungary.

Fabiny is married and has three children.
