The Taman Memorial Tun Datu Mustapha or Tun Mustapha Memorial Park (German Tun-Mustapha-Gedächtnispark ) is a memorial erected by the Malaysian state of Sabah in honor of Tun Mustapha , the first Yang di-Pertua Negeri and third Prime Minister of Sabah . His leading role in the negotiations on the accession of British North Borneo to the Malaya Federation made him one of the founding fathers of the state of Sabah.

Location of the monument

The memorial is part of the Muslim cemetery in Kampung Ulu / Ulu Seberang in Putatan . The cemetery area - located about two kilometers west of the center of Putatan - was previously a fortification by Mat Salleh .

Description of the monument

When the Muslim Tun Mustapha died on January 2, 1995 in the Sabah Medical Center , Teluk Likas, Kota Kinabalu, he was buried in the Muslim cemetery the following day. Only later was it decided to put the cemetery grounds under monument protection as a “memorial park”. The memorial stone in Malay and English was erected in September 1999.
