Tamarix smyrnensis is a species of the tamarisk ( Tamarix )genus.

features

Tamarix smyrnensis is a shrub or tree that reaches heights of 2 to 4 meters. The bark is reddish brown to brown. The flowers are five-fold. The petals are keeled. The stamens sit between the lobes of the nectar disc. The upper bracts are more or less membranous and triangular-kite-shaped.

Flowering time is from April to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

Tamarix smyrnensis occurs in the eastern Mediterranean and the Orient. Its distribution area includes Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, European Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, the Caucasus, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. The species grows on river banks and sandy coasts.
