Tan Howe Liang (born May 5, 1933 in Shantou , People's Republic of China ) is a former weightlifter from Singapore .

Career

Tan Howe Liang was the first Singapore-based weightlifter to become the world leader in weightlifting. He started lifting weights at the age of 20 and was gradually improving. In 1957 he reached a lightweight 330 kg in the Olympic three-way battle (up to 67.5 kg body weight). His greatest achievement was winning the silver medal at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome . In 1960 he also achieved his best performance in the lightweight category with 390 kg. After finishing his active career, he was an excellent coach who shaped some of his country's athletes into leading weightlifters in East Asia. He has received a number of national awards and an award from the IOC for his services.

  • 1962, 1st place , British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth , Wed, with 390 kg, in front of Pierre St. Jean, Canada , 375 kg a. Horace Johnson, Wales , 372.5 kg
