Tan Jiazhen

Tan Jiazhen ( Chinese  談 傢 楨  /  谈 家 桢 , Pinyin Tán Jiāzhēn , W.-G. T'an Chia-chen ; born September 15, 1909 , † November 1, 2008 ), also called CC Tan , was a Chinese geneticist and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences .

Jiazhen was at Soochow University and received his PhD from the California Institute of Technology in 1937 under the supervision of Theodosius Dobzhansky . Other teachers were Thomas Hunt Morgan and Alfred Henry Sturtevant . He later taught at Columbia University .

As a member of the Morgan group in the 1930s, Tan helped establish the Drosophila as the leading genus for genetic studies.

Tan had been a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences since 1985 .

Tan died of multiple organ failure at the age of 99.
