Tang Weifang ( Chinese  唐衛芳  /  唐卫芳 , Pinyin Táng Wèifāng , * 1978 ) is a Chinese weightlifter.

Career

Tang Weifang, like many other top-class weightlifters on the Chinese national team, comes from Shandong Province . She started lifting weights in 1990 at the age of twelve . Due to her good performance, she was accepted into the Chinese national team in 1994 and a year later she became world champion in her native Guangzhou. Until 1999 she achieved success after success. She delivered her masterpiece at the 1997 World Championships in Chiang Mai , where, for tactical reasons, she started with a body weight that was only a few grams above the lowest limit and still won the title against her opponents who were almost 7 kg heavier. In 2000 she could not start at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney because of the quota regulation of the international weightlifting association . She then ended her active career and devoted herself to her studies.
