Tange Sø is Denmark's largest artificial lake. It is located in the Midtjylland region near the town of Bjerringbro . The lake belongs to the Tange power station (Danish: Tangeværket), as the lake was created in 1920 through the construction of a dam and damming of the Gudenå . The Tange power plant is part of the Gudenå headquarters (Danish: Gudenaacentralen), the largest hydroelectric power plant in Denmark.

The lakeshore at Ans consists of sand and grass and the bottom of the lake consists of sand and stones. The Tange Sø collects the water from the Gudenå, Borre Å and Tange Å . The lake is drained by a hydroelectric power station. From here the Gudenå continues to flow to its mouth in Randers Fjord .

Under the 10 km long lake were the most important spawning grounds for the formerly famous Gudenå salmon. When the Tange Sø was dammed, this part in particular was under water and a unique natural landscape was destroyed with the result that the salmon died out. Nature conservation measures on the Gudenå ( renaturation , fish ladders ) and Tange Sø made it possible to achieve a better passage for the salmon. The national efforts in the form of the Association for the Preservation of Tange Lake ( Foreningen til bevarelse af Tange Sø ) also help to preserve the lake in its natural environment.

Tange Sø Folk Festival

In Ans, the annual Tange Sø Folk Festival takes place in August right by the lake. The main focus of the music styles on offer is Scottish and Irish folk music . Well-known Danish bands with a folk influence, such as Tørfisk or De Gyldne Løver, are also invited.
