Tanja Grotter series
Tanja Grotter ( Russian Таня Гроттер) is the main female character in a Russian series of novels by Dmitri Jemez (Дмитрий Емец). Jemez describes his books as a "cultural response" to the Harry Potter series by Joanne K. Rowling .

Litigation
A Dutch translation by Tanja Grotter and the Magical Double Bass was banned by the courts in 2003 after the author sued Rowling for copyright infringement. Attempts by the Russian publisher and Jemez to identify the works as a permitted parody failed. The Dutch court found the following similarities between the characters Harry Potter and Tanja Grotter:
