Tankah
Tankah , sometimes also Tancah , was a Maya city in what is now the Mexican state of Quintana Roo , a few kilometers from Tulúm .
history
Tancah's first buildings were constructed during the Late Classical and Early Post- Classic Periods (c. 770 to 1200), some in the two centuries thereafter. In many of the late Classical buildings, wall paintings were found whose style is very similar to the images of the Codex Tro-Cortesianus , which is kept in Madrid today.
Because of its tourist importance in the vicinity of Tulum, the INAH (Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia) started a multi-year excavation and restoration program for Tankah at the end of 2007 . Some buildings have since been reconstructed.
Others
There is a cenote of the same name near the archaeological site .
