Flag of Arizona

The flag of the US state of Arizona was officially adopted on February 17, 1917.

The seven red and six golden rays represent the original 13 counties of the state. They are reminiscent of the rays of the sun setting in the west. Arizona's sunsets are famous. Red and yellow are also the colors of the Spanish conquistadors who populated Arizona under Coronado from 1540. The blue in the flag symbolizes freedom. The star in the heart of the flag stands for copper mining . After all, Arizona is the largest copper producer in the United States.

Trivia
