The flag of American Samoa was adopted on April 24, 1960 .

The flag is blue in color with a white triangle outlined in red, the base of which is in the flight section. A bald eagle in the white field symbolizes the islands' close ties to the USA . The eagle holds traditional symbols of the Samoan chiefs in its claws.
