California flag
The flag of California is the official emblem of the US state of California .
history
After the outbreak of the Mexican-American War , US settlers declared California's independence as the " Republic of California " in 1846 and hoisted a flag in Sonoma with the drawing of the red star ( Lone Star ) of the first California autonomy movement of 1836 on a white background of a bear they chose as a symbol of strength and tenacity.
This flag was taken down by Union troops after about a month and initially replaced by the national flag of the USA. The original "Bear Flag" was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco . It was not until 1911 that the “Bear Flag” became the official state flag of California.
