The flag of Texas was introduced about six years before joining the Union in 1845 . The state uses the colors of the Stars and Stripes , but only one star - hence the name The Lone Star State . The colors of the flag have the following meanings: blue stands for loyalty, white for purity and red for bravery.

The Burnet Flag (1836–1839)

The Republic of Texas , which existed from 1836 to 1845 , also had a single star on a blue base . The so-called Burnet Flag was inspired by the Bonnie Blue Flag of the Republic of West Florida .

Loyalty oath

The oath of loyalty is:

Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible.

“Honor the Texas flag; I swear allegiance to you, Texas, a state under God, united and indivisible "

Trivia

In a 2001 Internet vote by the North American Vexillological Association , this flag was voted second among the top ten flags of the US states.
