Flag of Nevada
The flag of Nevada consists of a blue field with a star in the upper left corner, surrounded by the name "Nevada". Above it is a banner with the inscription "Battle Born", which indicates that the state of Nevada was created during the American Civil War . Below the star are two branches of green sagebrush (the state flower), with yellow flowers.
history
The current flag had its origins in a design competition from 1926. The winning design by Louis Shellback III was then partially revised in the House of Representatives, where there were differences of opinion between the two houses about the placement of the word "Nevada" on the flag . A compromise was reached and Governor Frederick Bennett Balzar passed a law in 1929 to pass the new flag. In 1989, however, a researcher discovered that the bill presented to and signed by the governor did not accurately reflect the 1929 agreement. A law passed in 1991 therefore ordered the word “Nevada” to appear under the star and above the branches, leading to the current design.
