Illinois flag
The flag of the US state of Illinois was introduced on July 6, 1915.
The flag shows the state seal on a white field. The white cloth is reminiscent of the " slave-free state ". The 1810 state seal in the center is based on the coat of arms of the United States . The year 1818 refers to the founding of the state of Illinois.
The bald eagle , the heraldic animal of the USA, holds a banner with the English state motto:
"State sovereignty, national union"
"State sovereignty, national unity"
