Z-Ro (born January 19, 1977 in Houston , Texas ; real name Joseph Wayne McVey ) is an American rapper .

life and career

Z-Ro grew up in a suburb of Houston. Initially, because Z-Ros family had the money, he was able to go to a good elementary school. He did not grow up in a poor family, but his mother died of cancer when he was six years old. From this point on, Z-Ro often had to get by on his own. Furthermore, Z-Ro was shaped by the brutality that prevailed in the ghetto, people who shot and stab themselves and took drugs.

Z-Ro got good grades at school, discovered hip-hop and played basketball, hoping to find a way out of the ghetto through the ball game. He was shot and was no longer physically able to do so.

He started with the music making with a friendly local rap group, Street Military , which at the label EMI stood at under contract. Z-Ro had been in choir and singer groups for a long time and his mother sang too, so this talent was already in his genes. He quickly made a name for himself with his rap and singing talent and was included by DJ Screw in his rap group Screwed Up Click , and the first independent albums followed, soon to be referred to as Down South Classics. He made a name for himself early on as a producer and rapper .

Z-Ro is a very versatile rapper. He can sing, which is unusual for rappers, and he can rap slowly, but like his cousin Trae , he often flows very quickly. He also produces some of his beats himself.

In 1998 he released his first album Look What You Did to Me and at the same time founded the group Guerilla Maab with his cousin Trae and brother Dougie D , who released their first album Rise in 1999 . Further solo albums with smaller labels followed, but in 2005 he signed a contract with Rap-A-Lot .
