Richard Meng

Richard Meng (born June 18, 1954 in Gelnhausen ) is a German journalist . From December 2007 to December 2014 he was spokesman for the Berlin Senate .

biography

After graduating from high school, which he passed at the high school in Büdingen , Meng began studying in Giessen . After graduating in mathematics, political science and sociology, he did his teaching training course in Friedberg (Hesse) . In 1984 he received his doctorate in social sciences. During his studies, he worked as a freelance journalist. In 1984 he was employed as an editor at the Frankfurter Rundschau . There he dealt mainly with reporting and commenting on Hessian state politics from Wiesbaden . From 1996 onwards he was their national political correspondent in Bonn and Berlin ; since 2006 he has headed the Berlin office and was appointed deputy editor-in-chief.

In addition to his national political reporting, he deals with the relationship between the media and politics and has published numerous articles in specialist media. He had a teaching position at the University of Marburg and is currently teaching [as of November 2018] in Berlin . He also published several books.

From December 1, 2007 to December 11, 2014 he was State Secretary and Speaker of the Berlin Senate under Klaus Wowereit .

Meng is chairman of the Karl Gerold Foundation for the promotion of young journalists.
