Richard Meng (born June 12, 1915 in Idar , † December 31, 1965 ) was a German football player .

Career

Meng belonged to Hannover 96 , for the club he was used in point and cup games from 1934 to 1948.

From 1934 to 1941 he played in the Lower Saxony Gauliga , one of 16 Gauligen at the time of National Socialism as the highest uniform league in the German Empire . At the end of his premier season he was Gaumeister with his team, as in 1938 . In the off-season 1939/40 played out in two groups Championship, he lost to Hannover 96 in the final match to the Gaumeisterschaft the VfL Osnabruck , winner of Group North , 4: 5 after home and away. In the following season Meng's club returned the favor with 4-2 after the first and second leg.

In the Gauliga Südhannover-Braunschweig , which was created due to the war-related division of the Gauliga Niedersachsen , alongside the Gauliga Weser-Ems , he played the seasons 1942/43 and 1943/44 and was fifth with his team. It is unclear whether he played in the Braunschweig group within this Gauliga .

Because of the three Gaume Championships he also took part in the final round of the German Championship. In the 1934/35 season he played all six games in Group B , scored two goals and retired from the competition as second in the group behind FC Schalke 04 . He finished the 1937/38 season after all nine final round matches as German champion, with the final that on June 26th in Berlin against the favorite FC Schalke 04 after the 3: 3 draw n.V. , no winner found, also denied and scored a goal, as well as the one scheduled on July 3 at the same place, which was decided 4: 3 after extra time with the goal for the final score in the 117th minute by his brother Erich . In the final round of the German championship 1940/41 he played in subgroup 2b on April 6, 1941 in the first group game against Borussia Fulda , in which he scored two goals, his last of a total of 16 final round games. As second in the group behind FC Schalke 04, he and his team were eliminated from the competition.

During the occupation of Hanover by the Allies as a result of the Second World War , Hanover 96 was dissolved in 1945, like all clubs in Germany. In 1946 the association was re-established. In 1947, the club at the green table was accepted into the newly founded Oberliga Nord as one of the five highest divisions . At the end of his first season, which Hannover 96 finished eleventh of twelve participating teams and had to relegate to the 1st amateur league, he ended his active football career. In the newly introduced cup competition for the Tschammer Cup , Meng played two games in 1935 , three in 1937 and one game in 1938 .
