Devin the Dude (born June 4, 1970 in St. Petersburg , Florida ; real name Devin Copeland ) is an American rapper from Houston, Texas, who was under contract with the Down-South label Rap-A-Lot Records .
His style is particularly characterized by its very relaxed mix of rap and singing and relaxed music and has a following not only in the American but also in parts of the German hip-hop scene.
Career
With his first album The Dude , he achieved a certain degree of popularity in the American underground in the late 1990s. However, he only got more attention when he worked on the song Fuck You with rap greats Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg on the 2001 album by Dr. Dre. He then released the albums Just Tryin 'ta Live , To tha X-Treme and Waiting to Inhale . He also worked with, among others, still following known rappers together: Nas , Xzibit , De La Soul , Scarface , Chamillionaire , Bun B .
His lyrics are mainly about sex, marijuana, partying and interpersonal relationships, but also about serious personal issues, which he presents in a not clumsy, humorous style.
