The flag of Easter Island ( Chile ) is the native flag of the Rapanui . A red Rei-Miro is depicted on a white surface - a breast ornament that was worn by dignitaries of the indigenous people as a symbol of power. The meaning of the Rei-Miros is not proven beyond doubt.
The flag is also used alongside the flag of Chile on official occasions . There is also a flag of the only municipality on the island of Isla de Pascua , it shows a golden emblem on a white background. Until the Chilean annexation of the islands in 1888, a flag similar to that of today was in use, it also showed four Manutara , mythical birds of indigenous culture.
