Tankred of Bologna (* around 1185 in Bologna ; † 1234/1236 there) was a medieval lawyer . He is considered the most important canonist of the 13th century.

Tankred studied canon law in Bologna with Laurentius Hispanus and Johannes Galensis and Roman law with Azo . From 1214 at the latest he was himself a law teacher in Bologna. He was held in high regard by his colleagues and was trusted by the Roman Curia. Tankred wrote the Glossa ordinaria for Compilationes I, II (both 1210–1215, revised after 1220) and III (after 1220) of the Quinque Compilationes Antiquae . In 1226 he put on behalf of Pope Honorius III. the Compilatio V together. His Ordo iudiciarius , a presentation of the judiciary and the canonical as well as civil law proceedings, was the basis of all later works on this subject.
