Tanvir Ahmed Khan

Tanvir Ahmed Khan (* 1932 in Hoshiarpur District , Punjab , British India ; † November 16, 2013 in Islamabad , Pakistan ) was a Pakistani politician and diplomat.

Life

When India was partitioned in 1947, his family moved from what is now the Indian part of Punjab to Lahore in Pakistan . Khan studied in Lahore and at the University of Oxford , where he graduated in English literature .

From 1974 he was employed in the diplomatic service of Pakistan. He was the Pakistani ambassador to Iran , Czechoslovakia , Bangladesh , France (1990–1992) and Russia (1993–1997).

1989 to 1990 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan ( Foreign Secretary ) in the government of Benazir Bhutto . Twice he held the office of government spokesman. After retiring from active politics, he worked as director of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad and as a journalist.
