Solnechnodolsk ( Russian Солнечнодо́льск ) is an urban-type settlement in the Stavropol region ( Russia ) with 12,137 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located almost 50 km northwest of the regional administrative center of Stavropol in the northern foothills of the Greater Caucasus . It is located on the left bank of the Jegorlyk, which is dammed up there to form the Novotroitskoye reservoir .
Solnechnodolsk belongs to the Isobilnensky Rajons and is located about 20 km southwest of its administrative center Isobilny . It is the seat and only place of the municipality of the same name (gorodskoje posselenije).
history
The place was created in connection with the construction of the Stavropolskaya GRES thermal power plant, which began in 1973 and received the status of an urban-type settlement in the same year. The name is derived from the Russian words solnze for sun and dolina for valley . The four units of the power plant went into operation between 1974 and 1983.

Economy and Transport
The building company is the thermal power plant Stavropolskaya GRES, operated by OGK-2 and located on the northern outskirts, with an output of 2400 MW .
16 km north of the settlement is the nearest railway station on the Kawkasskaya ( Kropotkin ) - Stavropol line, from where a rail connection leads to the power plant. Solnnodolsk is located on the regional road 07K-038 to Sengilejewskoje , which connects 10 km north of Novotroitskaya to the 07K-036 Stavropol - Isobilny - Krasnogwardeiskoje .
