Levokumskoje ( Russian Левоку́мское ) is a village (selo) in the Stavropol region in Russia with 10,302 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is a good 200 km as the crow flies east-southeast of the regional administrative center of Stavropol in the northern foothills of the Caucasus . It is located on the left bank of the Kuma between the cities of Budyonnowsk (about 40 km west) and Neftekumsk (a good 25 km east). Immediately below Lewokumskoje reaching Terek -Kuma irrigation channel of the river and goes into the continuing northward Kuma- Manytsch over channel. South of the village, another irrigation canal, the Neftekumsk Canal, branches off in an easterly direction.
Lewokumskoje is the administrative center of the Rajons Lewokumski and seat and only town in the rural community (selskoje posselenije) Selo Lewokumskoje.
history
The village was founded in 1842 and was initially called Gromki. The current name refers to the location to the left of the Kuma (from Russian lewy for "left" and the river name Kuma; on the opposite bank of the river is the smaller village Prawokumskoje; prawy stands for "right").
On April 13, 1924 Levokumskoje was the first administrative seat of a Rajon, which initially existed until 1928 and was restored in 1935.

Levokumskoje is on the regional road that connects Budyonnovsk, where the nearest train station is, with Lagan in the neighboring Republic of Kalmykia (formerly R263). A road branches off to the east via Neftekumsk to Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk in Dagestan .
