Yuzhno-Suchokumsk ( Russian Южно-Сухокумск ) is a city in the North Caucasian Republic of Dagestan in Russia with 10,035 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the Terek Kuma lowlands , in the northwest of the Nogaier steppe , about 300 km northwest of the republic capital Makhachkala on the river Suchaja Kuma (Dry Kuma), which carries periodic water .
Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk is administratively directly subordinate to the republic.
history
Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk was established in 1963 as an urban-type settlement for oil and gas workers and was granted city rights in 1988.
