history

At the time of the annexation of the region to the Russian Empire at the beginning of the 19th century, the village, like the entire surrounding area, was inhabited by Chechens initially called Banai-Aul. In 1943 it became the seat of the newly formed Auchowski rajon, after the term Auch for the Chechen sub-ethnic group living there. After the Chechens were deported on February 23, 1944, Laken from villages of the Lakski rajon around Kumuch in the mountainous part of the Dagestani ASSR were resettled in the village and in the district of Laken . Rajon and place were given their current names ("New Lakischer Rajon" and "Neu Lakisches (village)").

During the Dagestan War, Novolakskoye was occupied by Chechen militants from September 5 to 14, 1999. During the heavy fighting with the Russian army, the village was largely destroyed, but subsequently rebuilt.
