Mechelta ( Russian Мехельта , Avar МелъелтӀа ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Dagestan in Russia with 3314 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is a good 80 km as the crow flies west-southwest of the republic capital Makhachkala in the eastern part of the Greater Caucasus , just under 10 km from the border with the Chechen Republic . It is not far from the Tljarata river, a good 10 km from its confluence from the left into the Andijskoje Koisu .
The almost exclusively by Avars Mechelta inhabited is the administrative center Rajons Gumbetowski and seat of the rural community selsowet (selskoje posselenije) Mecheltinski, also (5 km west-northwest) belong to the villages Narysch and Stary Siwuch. Narysch is a good 80 km north on the territory of the Babajurtowski rajon , southwest of Babajurt , and is inhabited by Avars from Mechelta in the middle of the Rajons, which are otherwise predominantly populated by Kumyks . In the area are the traditional winter pastures (cutaneous) of the Mecheltines.
history
After the area was annexed to the Russian Empire and the Dagestan Oblast was formed in 1861, the old village became part of its Andean Okrug ( Andijski okrug with its seat in Botlich ) and became the seat of one of the seven (later eight) administrative sections (Gumbetowski utschastok). As part of the administrative reorganization of the Dagestani ASSR founded in 1921 , the section was transformed on November 22, 1928, first into a sub-canton of the same name in the newly created canton of Botlich, and finally on December 25, 1930 into an independent Rajon.
1944, a part of the population was in the 50km north just west of the city in the plane Khasavyurt in the newly formed village located Jarmarkino rayon Nowolakski relocated, which resulted in Nowomechelta was renamed ( "New Mechelta").

The short regional road 82K-043 leads to Mechelta, which begins at 82K-007 Chassavyurt - Dylym - Tloch , which passes just 3 km to the east . The 82N-004 runs to the west over the 2507 m high pass Andijskije Vorota (“Andean Gate”) to Gagatli , from where there is a connection to the 82K-008 in the direction of Botlich and the Chechen border via Andi .
The nearest train station is 50 km north in Khassavyurt on the Rostov-on-Don - Makhachkala - Baku route .
