Tao Rusyr Caldera
The Tao-Rusyr-Caldera ( Russian Кальдера Тао-Русыр ) is a caldera on Onekotan , one of the Kuril Islands in Russia .
The caldera has a diameter of 7.5 km and is largely filled by Lake Kolzewoje, the water surface of which is 400 m above sea level. It originated around the year 5,500 BC. During a volcanic eruption of strength 6 on the volcanic explosivity index , in which around 33 cubic kilometers of material was released. In the lake rises an island called Krenitsyn , which consists only of the 1,325 m high volcano of the same name . This last had a magnitude 3 eruption in 1952 .
