The wallpaper moth ( Trichophaga tapetzella ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of real moths (Tineidae).

features

The front wings of the wallpaper moth are two-colored: at the root of the wing (attachment to the body) the front wings are dark brown, the whitish color begins around the middle of the wing length. At the wing tips there are some dark spots in the white background. The insect has a body size of about 10 mm, this corresponds to the wingspan . The hind wings have a hairline.

Habitat

In nature, the wallpaper moth can be found in bird nests , in human dwellings as a pest on textiles . They occur all year round in heated apartments and are able to form several generations in one year. The protection against wallpaper moths essentially corresponds to the protective measures against infestation by the clothes moth .

Food of the caterpillars

The caterpillars of the wallpaper moth feed in nature on the feathers of the birds in whose nests they were deposited. In the apartments they attack and destroy woolen fabrics and fur goods , as well as furniture covers . They have even been found in stored guano .
