List of nodes

The tarbuck knot is a knot used to create an adjustable loop .

history

The mountaineer Ken Tarbuck invented the node in 1952 as a dynamic tie-in knot for the first nylon - ropes . In the event of a fall, the knot would slip and only hold when the impact force has been reduced to a safe level.

But hardly as the knot became widely known, dynamic climbing ropes with a kernmantle construction appeared. Due to their elasticity, these absorb impacts and make the knot unnecessary. The tarbuck knot could even damage such ropes as the friction in a fall could destroy the coat.

application

The original purpose of roping up is no longer recommended with modern climbing ropes. Nowadays the tarbuck knot is used as an adjustable loop, for example when tensioning tent lines.

Knot

With the loose end you make two round turns around the standing part. Then you bring the end of the rope out of the loop and put another half turn around the standing part.

Alternatives

The topsail sheet is also suitable as a tent tensioner .
