The penelopides ( Penelopides ) are a genus of the family of hornbills (Bucerotidae). These are small to medium-sized hornbills. It is characteristic of this genus that the tail feathers differ only slightly in length. The featherless areas on the head are only small and limited to the area around the eyes and the throat. There is a striking gender dimorphism between the two sexes . Fledglings usually resemble the female.
The distribution area of the Tarictic hornbills includes the islands of the Philippines and Sulawesi . Little is known about their way of life. Most of the knowledge so far has been gained from birds that have been kept in captivity. Individual species are occasionally observed in smaller groups and it cannot be ruled out that they also breed collectively.
