Pocket gate

The pocket gate on Adlerstrasse in the town of Merkendorf in the Franconian Lake District ( Middle Franconia ) is part of the town's fortifications .

construction

The pocket gate is a two-story gate tower with a flat hipped roof and small windows. It looks rather simple and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1766 . To the north of the pocket gate there was a gatehouse until the 1950s , which had to give way to the heavy traffic. A pedestrian breakthrough was made through the city wall at the site of the guard house. There is an apartment in the tower.
